The old heart of the city, where every lane opens onto a piazza, a fountain or a church. The Pantheon, the Trevi and Piazza Navona are all an easy walk apart, made for early mornings and aimless evening strolls.
The elegant, tree-lined sweep that gave the world the Dolce Vita. Grand hotels, pavement cafes and the green calm of the Villa Borghese gardens sit just above the noise of the centre.
The bohemian quarter across the Tiber, all cobbled lanes, ivy-clad facades and trattorie that spill onto the squares. Trastevere comes into its own after dark, over a long Roman dinner and a wander home.
