Swipe to explore · the regions worth knowing

Bali's spiritual and creative heart, set among emerald rice terraces and river gorges. Ubud is temples and gamelan, jungle villas with private pools and some of the finest wellness on the island.

The stylish surf coast, where beach clubs, boutiques and long sunset dinners set the pace. Seminyak brings the polish and the dining, while neighbouring Canggu keeps things barefoot and easy.

The dramatic clifftop south, with limestone headlands, world-class surf and the island's most glamorous resorts. Uluwatu pairs hidden coves and clifftop pools with a sea temple perched above the waves.

The quiet, traditional side of the island, where black-sand beaches meet ancient temples and the great volcano of Mount Agung. East Bali is unhurried days, water palaces and the serene Amankila above the sea.

A quiet purification ceremony led by a local priest, at a temple kept well away from the crowds.

A private chef and a candlelit table set high in the treetops, the river and the forest all around you.

The famous lake temple all but to yourselves at first light, with mist rising off the water and the mountains behind.

Your own boat to the dramatic cliffs and turquoise bays off the south-east, anchoring in coves few ever reach.

A guided walk through the rainforest to Bali's tallest waterfall, with a swim in the pool beneath it.

A privately arranged early visit to Lempuyang, the great split gate framing Mount Agung before the day begins.

Shop the morning market with a local cook, walk the terraces, then a long lunch prepared in their family compound.

A full day of private treatments and an infinity pool on the cliffs, with the Indian Ocean stretching out below.
